Twelve years after joining Hertfordshire Constabulary as a PC in Cheshunt, Pat McPeake has returned to the borough having been appointed as the new Chief Inspector for Broxbourne.
Ch Insp McPeake started the role yesterday (Monday 5 May) and leads the Local Crime Unit, Intervention and Neighbourhood Policing Teams based at Cheshunt Police Station.
After beginning his career as a response officer with the City of London Police in 2010, he transferred to Hertfordshire Constabulary three years later as a PC in Cheshunt before being promoted to acting Sergeant in 2015.
Further opportunities saw him move to Stevenage as a Custody Sergeant, Intervention Inspector, Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector and then Operations Inspector.
Of his return to the area and starting the new role, Ch Insp McPeake said: “Having successfully passed the Chief Inspector’s promotion process, I requested Broxbourne so I could go back to where it all began.
“I always told myself that one day I would be the Chief Inspector for Broxbourne, it is truly amazing that it is now happening.
“I live in the area, so I’m looking forward to making a difference to the community in which I live, making sure it’s a safe community for the public and for my kids growing up.”
He added: “I’m keen we build on the existing good work in the area to ensure we are responding to the public effectively and dealing with what matters most.
“I’m excited to be working with the many talented officers under my command, who work tirelessly to deliver an excellent service to our residents.
“One of my key aims is ensuring my teams are engaging with our diverse communities so that we understand what matters most to the public and that there are robust plans in place to achieve this.
“It can be challenging for the police to spend quality time engaging with the public due to competing demands, but quality engagement is crucial in building trust and confidence, and I’ll be working with local partners to maximise our reach.
“I will target our patrols and activity to make the most impact to drive down crime and anti-social behaviour.
“We will maximise the benefits of Op Hotspot policing to enhance visibility within our areas that are disproportionately affected by crime.
“An additional benefit of that is that the public get to see the police more and it opens up further opportunities for engagement.
