Former Metropolitan police officer, David Carrick, has today (Thursday 20 November) been sentenced to another life sentence, following an eight day trial at the Old Bailey, where he was found guilty of nine new offences involving two new victims.
During the trial, the jury of four women and eight men heard evidence from both victims who took the stand to testify against Carrick. Victim statements were also read out in court prior to sentencing, detailing the devastating effect he had and continues to have on their lives.
Mrs Justice McGowen recognised the courage and resilience both victims demonstrated in making their statements and giving evidence. She highlighted that his behaviour as a sexual predator began when he was a child himself and said that he failed to accept responsibility and blamed others. She also said: “I have no doubt that you are dangerous.”
David Carrick must serve a minimum term of 30 years which will run concurrently to his other offences. He is now serving a total of 37 life sentences.
Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Iain Moor, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to secure justice for these victims. It was important that we investigated these offences despite Carrick already serving a lengthy sentence.
“This was all about them and ensuring their voices were heard and their stories told and believed. I hope they can now move on with their lives and continue with their recovery. I also hope this goes some way to repairing the devastating impact that David Carrick has had on trust and confidence in policing.”
David Carrick was charged with two offences of rape, six offences of indecent assault and one offence of coercive and controlling behaviour after the two women came forward following his conviction in 2023.
