Police are continuing to work with partner agencies, schools and licensed premises in Three Rivers to warn young people of the dangers around using fake identification.

The work is being led by the Three Rivers Community Safety Unit (CSU) following an increase in fake IDs being used in the area.

More than 160 fake IDs have been seized in Rickmansworth town centre alone over the summer.

The vast majority were driving licenses, 107 of which belonged to underage males, while 58 were female.

While possession of a false identity document is a serious criminal offence, using a fake ID can also put young at risk of safeguarding issues, identify theft and exploitation.

Sergeant Gary Yam, from the CSU, said: “Our main aim is to educate young people on the dangers of using fake identification. We’re working with schools and will continue to carry out checks in licensed premises, working with them to ensure that young people are kept safe.

“We’re also keen to spread awareness among parents and guardians, who may know their children are using these fake documents, without being fully aware of the consequences.”

He continued: “It is vital to be aware that the people who create and supply these counterfeit documents are criminals - criminals who will have access to your personal information, putting you at risk of identity theft.”
