Man banned from Potters Bar property as police and council tackle drugs

A man has been banned from entering a property in Potters Bar as part of efforts by police and Hertsmere Borough Council to tackle drug dealing.

St Albans Magistrates’ Court granted a three-month partial closure order for an address suspected of being used for crime in Laurel Avenue on Monday (16 March). This was the result of a joint application from the Potters Bar and Shenley Neighbourhood Policing Team and Hertsmere Borough Council.

The order has banned a named individual from entering the property for three months following his recent arrest.

The 18 year old man, who is from Potters Bar, had been arrested last month on suspicion of possession of a Class B drug (cannabis), possession with intent to supply drugs (nitrous oxide), theft of vehicle (a moped), possession of a firearm (a Taser) and possession of an offensive weapon (a knife). He has been bailed whilst enquiries continue.

PC Sophie Stalley, from the Potters Bar and Shenley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We hope this news demonstrates to residents that we will explore all available options we have to tackle crime and drug dealing. From arrests to closure orders, we will do whatever we need to make sure that residents feel safe.

“We’re committed to working with Hertsmere Borough Council, and other local partners, to ensure effective action against suspected crime and drug dealing.”

“This partial closure order sends a clear message that criminal and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated, and that it will help restore peace and reassurance to the local neighbourhood that we do listen and we do act.

“We remain committed to using all available powers to protect our communities and to support residents who come forward to report concerns.”
