James started with the Metropolitan Police in 1989 and worked in various roles from criminal justice, crime support and general admin across central and west London – ultimately as Finance Manager for the Central London Crime Command Unit based in Kensington.
James moved from the Met to Essex Police in 2001 where he worked up until 2015, spending time with the Mobile Support Division, the finance department and the strategic transformation team.
He then spent five years with Essex County Council between 2015 and 2020 as Head of Finance before joining Hertfordshire Constabulary in 2020 as Director of Resources.
James is a qualified CIPFA accountant and his favourite hobby is football - he is a Brentford season ticket holder.
