The Roll of Honour dates back to when the Constabulary was first established in 1841.
Any member of the public – whether they be a surviving friend and relative, or simply someone with good local knowledge – is invited to provide us with any information they may have about an officer included on the Roll of Honour, and the circumstances surrounding their death.

Died from injuries sustained after being involved in a road traffic accident whilst driving a prisoner and escort at Harpenden.

Died 21 November 1989
While assisting an army ambulance crew at the scene of a serious traffic accident in thick fog at Royston a speeding car struck him killing him instantly.
PC Francis Mason
Died 14 April 1988
While off duty he intervened in an armed robbery at a bank in Hemel Hempstead. Whilst arresting a man he was shot and fatally wounded.

Died 13 October 1982
Killed when the police car in which she was the observer was deliberately rammed by the driver of a vehicle being pursued by police at Royston.

PC Frank Hulme
Died 12 December 1958
Assaulted during a violent struggle when he intervened in a street affray at Hemel Hempstead shortly afterwards he collapsed and subsequently died.
PC William Hughes
Died 25 April 1947
While serving as a War Reserve Constable with the St Albans City Police he sustained injuries from which he later died when he moved a heavy obstacle from the road.
PC Reuben Hyatt
Died 24 May 1930
While on night duty in Wormley he was killed when a steam powered cement lorry and trailer skidded, mounted the pavement and struck him.
PC William Gatehouse
Died 17 July 1925
Fatally injured when he fell from the running board of a moving lorry after giving its driver directions.
PC Charles Godfrey
Died 12 April 1924
While stopping and checking drivers in a general search for travelling criminals in London Colney was knocked down by a lorry and died from his injuries.
