Safer Streets - Welwyn Hatfield

The Welwyn Hatfield Safer Streets project is a multi-agency initiative that aims to reduce reports of vehicle crime, county line drug dealing, criminal damage and associated anti-social behaviour in hotspot areas.

Which streets does the project focus on?

The project focuses on the following locations:

• Goldings House
• Goldings Crescent
• Link Close
• Wood Close
• Wood Vale
• Deerswood Avenue
• Northdown Road
• Garden Avenue
• Roe Green Lane
• St Albans Road West
• Link Drive

What does the project entail?

• Upgrading CCTV.
• Improving security measures – a purposeful secure cycle storage. for the Link Drive car park to house residents, visitors and staff motorbikes.
• Improving security measures – a barrier system which moves up from the ground to prevent cars and other vehicles from entering or exiting the Goldings House carpark without authorised access.
• Environmental improvements - cutting back the extensive vegetation on the footpath that runs between Goldings House and Link Drive and the main footpaths and alleyways that act as cut throughs between the target hotspot locations.
• SAS Ultimate Garage Defenders provided to households that own scooters/motorbikes and a garage in hotspot locations.
• New street lighting.
• Operation Oarlock – a covert operation to tackle anti-social behaviour, drugs and vehicle theft. This will also include overt patrols.
• Increasing Herts Connected sign-ups.
• Working with schools and the university on targeted educational awareness and crime prevention advice.
