The priorities for May to August are as follows:
• Speeding on Bedford Road (A600). The stretch of Bedford Road between Redhill Road and Turnpike Lane has been identified as a location of concern for speeding vehicles by the local community. We will be conducting speed enforcement activities in this location over the coming months.
• E-Scooters and E-Bikes in Hitchin Urban. Once again, this issue has been highlighted in the recent public consultation process. We will continue our efforts to address this issue.
Issued 18 May 2026
Residents will see their dedicated Neighbourhood Policing Team of PCs and PCSOs working alongside partners to tackle these issues, through an increased police presence, engagement events and targeted enforcement.

The previous local priorities for the area were:
• Checks on LGVs and waste carrying vehicles in Hitchin Urban
• The unlawful use of E-scooters
• Tackle speeding on London Road B656
Issued 18 May 2026
Residents previously asked us to focus on the following issues:
Checks on LGVs and waste carrying vehicles in Hitchin Urban
*The issue of some LGVs and waste carrying vehicles using Hitchin Urban road network whilst contravening relevant road traffic and related waste carrier legislation was raised as an issue. During January and February your local team conducted checks to make sure that vehicles using local roads to transport waste were doing so safely with secure loads and in accordance with the law.
The unlawful use of E-scooters throughout Hitchin Urban
*The use of E-scooters on public land is not allowed, and can present a danger to pedestrians and other road users alike. The Neighbourhood Policing Team undertook patrols looking for e-scooters being used illegally. Users were spoken to to address this issue including education and, where necessary and appropriate, enforcement was taken.
Tackle speeding on London Road B656
*Patrol and speed enforcement activity took place in and around the location to address the issue of speeding vehicles.
