Graeme is no stranger to Stevenage, and he actually started his police career in the town. Graeme joined the force back in 1999 and specifically requested to be stationed in Stevenage where he joined the response team before becoming a Detective in 2003. He was soon promoted to Detective Sergeant and led an Area Crime Team and then the pro-active Scorpion Team. From there Graeme joined the Beds, Cambs & Herts Major Crime Unit in 2013 and worked on several high-profile murder cases. A promotion to Detective Inspector followed and Graeme returned to Stevenage in 2018 to lead the local Crime Unit. In 2020 he was promoted to Chief Inspector and worked in several roles around the county before returning once again to Stevenage to take the helm. Commenting on his new role he said: "I am delighted to be back in Stevenage again and I’m ready for a new challenge. My police teams are hard-working and motivated, and I am so pleased to have the opportunity to lead them. We are all committed to making Stevenage a safe place to live and visit as well as building on the excellent work already in place. "We have good working relationships with partner agencies, including Stevenage Borough Council and the Haven charity, and will continue our work with local schools to try and steer young people away from crime. "Drug and knife crime continue to be an issue in the town, and I will be looking to enhance our work in these areas. Stevenage police is well supported by its local communities and we rely heavily on local information to help us target drug related crime. I hope this will continue."
