about

Your area is policed by the local Neighbourhood Policing Team. They are based nearby at a police station within the borough or district and they work to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour in this area. They also conduct regular patrols and hold surgeries to share crime prevention advice and respond to issues or concerns. They work to solve underlying problems that cause crime and anti-social behaviour.

Other units also work in this area, responding to emergency calls and investigating crimes such as burglary. You can make an appointment to see someone from the Neighbourhood Policing Team by calling 101 or via the contact us tab. If it is an emergency, you should always call 999.

Crimes and priorities

  • Priority:

    Action taken:

  • Priority:

The previous local priorities for the area were:
    • Drug use, and supply, in the Town Centre Gardens, Hampson Park and Lonsdale Road.
    • Speeding on residential roads, specifically on Lonsdale Road and Bedwell Crescent.
    • Anti-social behaviour in the town centre.

    Issued 10 May 2026

    Action taken:

Residents previously asked us to focus on the following issues:

Tackle drug use and supply in public spaces, namely the Town Centre Gardens, Hampson Park and Lonsdale Road.
    * Officers regularly patrol these areas to detect and deter drug related crime.

Tackle Speeding on residential roads, specifically on Lonsdale Road and Bedwell Crescent.
    * Reports of speeding remain low and are currently falling, however our surveys indicate this is still a concern for local residents. Targeted patrols are ongoing.

Continuing to tackle ASB in the Town Centre
*Previously, the Safer Town Centre and Winter of Action initiatives, along with Operation Hotspot have seen increased high visibility and plain clothed patrols in Stevenage town centre. This has resulted in numerous arrests for shoplifting and ASB and a drop in the number of reports of ASB in the town centre.

Operation Scoot which tackles cycling and the illegal use of e-scooters in the town centre has continued and last year more than 67 scooters and e-bikes were seized as result of this work.

9/2/26 Update - During January we made numerous arrests for shoplifting offences in the town centre and surrounding retail parks, with a number of people being charged and dealt with at court .
Other arrests include a man charged for vehicle interference and possession of class A drugs and three men reported for driving whilst on their mobile phones.
Six e-scooters were also seized as a part of an on-going effort to tackle anti-social riding on public roads and footpaths. All were taken away and crushed to prevent repeat offending.

23/3/26 Update - A man was arrested for theft and failing to comply with a community protection notice relating to ASB in the town centre. He has been charged with bail conditions not to enter the town centre.

    Actioned 10 May 2026

  • Priority:

The priorities for May to August are as follows:
    • Anti-social behaviour in the town centre in the upcoming summer months.
    • Drug use, and supply, in the public spaces such as the Town Centre Gardens and Hampson Park.

    Issued 10 May 2026

    Action taken:

Residents will see their dedicated Neighbourhood Policing Team of PCs and PCSOs working alongside partners to tackle these issues, through an increased police presence, engagement events and targeted enforcement.
